Publication Ethics

Publication Ethics

Jurnal Cendekia Mengabdi (JCM) is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing. All parties involved in the publication process, including editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher, are expected to uphold ethical principles and responsible academic practices throughout the submission, review, and publication process.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts submitted to JCM are evaluated fairly, objectively, independently, and confidentially. Editorial decisions are based on the academic quality, originality, relevance, methodological appropriateness, and contribution of the manuscript to community service and the scope of the journal.

  • Editors shall evaluate manuscripts without discrimination based on the authors' personal, professional, or institutional background.
  • Editors shall maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all information related to the editorial process.
  • Editors shall not use unpublished information contained in submitted manuscripts for personal or professional advantage.
  • Editors shall disclose and appropriately manage any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Editors shall ensure that editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit and relevance to the journal's focus and scope.
  • Editors shall take appropriate action when ethical concerns, complaints, or allegations of publication or research misconduct are raised.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play an important role in supporting editorial decisions and assisting authors in improving the quality of their manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively, constructively, professionally, and confidentially.

  • Reviewers shall provide objective, constructive, and academically relevant evaluations.
  • Reviewers shall treat manuscripts received for review as confidential documents.
  • Reviewers should decline a review if the manuscript falls outside their expertise or if they cannot complete the review within an appropriate period.
  • Reviewers shall identify relevant published works that have not been appropriately acknowledged or cited when reasonably identifiable.
  • Reviewers shall disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could affect the objectivity of their evaluation.
  • Information, ideas, or data obtained through the peer-review process shall not be used for personal advantage or other unauthorized purposes.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts submitted to JCM represent original, accurate, and responsible scholarly work. Manuscripts reporting community service activities should accurately describe the objectives, methods, implementation, community participation, outcomes, and relevant impacts of the activities conducted.

  • Authors shall submit original work and appropriately acknowledge the ideas, data, methods, and works of others.
  • Authors shall not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.
  • Authors shall accurately present the methods, implementation processes, results, and outcomes of community service activities.
  • Authors shall not fabricate, falsify, manipulate, or intentionally misrepresent data or information.
  • All individuals listed as authors must have made an appropriate contribution to the work.
  • Individuals or institutions that have contributed significantly to the activity should be appropriately acknowledged where applicable.
  • Authors shall obtain necessary permissions or consent when community participants, personal information, photographs, or other identifiable materials are included in a manuscript.
  • Authors shall disclose relevant financial, institutional, or other conflicts of interest that could influence the work or its interpretation.
  • Authors shall promptly notify the editorial team if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their submitted or published work.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that manuscripts submitted to JCM are original. The use of ideas, text, data, images, or other materials belonging to others must be appropriately acknowledged and cited.

Plagiarism, substantial unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, duplicate publication, and other forms of misappropriation of scholarly work are considered violations of publication ethics.

Submitted manuscripts may be evaluated using plagiarism-detection or similarity-checking tools as part of the journal's editorial process. Similarity results will be evaluated by the editorial team in context and will not necessarily serve as the sole basis for an editorial decision.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit manuscripts describing substantially the same work to more than one journal simultaneously. Submitting the same or substantially similar manuscript to multiple journals at the same time constitutes unethical publishing practice.

Authors should also appropriately disclose and cite previous publications that are closely related to the submitted manuscript.

Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, planning, implementation, analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or preparation of the community service work and manuscript.

All listed authors should approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission for publication. Individuals who contributed to the activity but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged where applicable.

Community Participation and Ethical Considerations

Authors are expected to respect the rights, dignity, privacy, safety, and interests of individuals and communities involved in community service activities.

Where applicable, authors should obtain appropriate permission or informed consent before collecting or publishing personal information, photographs, interviews, testimonials, or other identifiable information involving community participants.

Activities involving sensitive populations, personal data, health interventions, or other ethical considerations should comply with applicable institutional, professional, and legal requirements.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors should disclose relationships, interests, or circumstances that could reasonably be considered to influence the research, community service activity, peer-review process, or editorial decision.

When a relevant conflict of interest exists, appropriate measures should be taken to maintain an independent, objective, and fair publication process.

Research and Community Service Integrity

Fabrication, falsification, manipulation of data, misleading presentation of community service outcomes, inappropriate image manipulation, and other forms of academic or research misconduct are not acceptable.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all data, documentation, photographs, results, and other information presented in their manuscripts.

Use of Images and Community Documentation

Photographs, illustrations, and other documentation of community service activities should accurately represent the activities conducted and should not be manipulated in ways that could mislead readers.

Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission for the publication of photographs or other materials where permission is required, particularly when individuals can be identified.

Corrections and Retractions

When significant errors, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns are identified after publication, JCM may take appropriate editorial action to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, such action may include publishing a correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retracting the affected article.

Handling of Publication Misconduct

Reports or allegations of publication misconduct will be examined by the editorial team. The journal may request explanations, supporting information, documentation, or other relevant evidence from authors, reviewers, editors, or other parties involved.

Editorial action will be determined based on the available evidence, the nature and seriousness of the issue, and applicable publication ethics principles.

Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers shall maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and information obtained during the submission and peer-review process. Submitted manuscripts shall not be disclosed or discussed with unauthorized parties except where necessary for legitimate editorial or ethical purposes.
