Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts to Jurnal Cendekia Mengabdi (JCM). Manuscripts should be relevant to the focus and scope of the journal, particularly in the areas of community service, community empowerment, application of science and technology, social innovation, and sustainable community development. Manuscripts must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are expected to read and comply with the journal's editorial policies, publication ethics, plagiarism policy, peer review process, and submission requirements.

1. General Requirements

Manuscripts submitted to JCM should meet the following general requirements:

  • The manuscript must be original and relevant to the focus and scope of JCM.
  • The manuscript must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  • The manuscript should report community service, community empowerment, training, mentoring, technology implementation, social innovation, or other activities relevant to the journal's scope.
  • The manuscript should demonstrate a clear contribution or benefit to the target community.
  • The manuscript should be written clearly, systematically, and consistently.
  • Authors must ensure that all sources are appropriately cited and included in the reference list.
  • The manuscript must comply with the journal's publication ethics and plagiarism policy.
  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all information, data, photographs, and documentation presented in the manuscript.

2. Manuscript Preparation

Authors should prepare their manuscripts using the official JCM article template when available. The manuscript should follow the structure, formatting, citation style, and other requirements specified in the journal template.

Authors are advised to download and use the latest version of the template provided on the JCM website before submitting their manuscript.

3. Manuscript Structure

A community service article should generally contain the following components:

  • Title
  • Author Name(s) and Affiliation(s)
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Community Service Method
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments (when applicable)
  • References

The structure may be adjusted according to the characteristics of the community service activity, provided that the manuscript remains academically clear, systematic, and consistent with the official JCM article template.

4. Title

The title should be concise, informative, and accurately represent the community service activity reported in the manuscript.

The title should clearly reflect the main activity, approach, target community, or issue addressed and should avoid unnecessarily long or ambiguous wording.

5. Author Information

The manuscript should provide accurate information about all authors, including names, institutional affiliations, and relevant contact information. The corresponding author should be clearly identified.

All individuals listed as authors must have made an appropriate contribution to the community service activity and/or preparation of the manuscript and should approve the submitted version.

6. Abstract

The abstract should provide a concise overview of the community service activity. It should generally describe the background or problem, objectives, methods or approach, target community, main results or outcomes, and conclusion.

The abstract should be understandable without requiring readers to consult the full manuscript.

7. Keywords

Authors should provide relevant keywords representing the main topics, methods, target community, technology, intervention, or other important aspects of the community service activity.

Appropriate keywords help improve the discoverability and indexing of published articles.

8. Introduction

The introduction should explain the background and context of the community service activity, including the conditions, needs, or problems experienced by the target community.

Authors should clearly describe:

  • The background and context of the activity;
  • Problems or needs of the target community;
  • Relevant theoretical or empirical background;
  • Previous studies or community service activities where applicable;
  • Objectives of the community service activity; and
  • Expected contribution or benefits.

Relevant scholarly sources should be appropriately discussed and cited to support the background and approach adopted.

9. Community Service Method

The method section should provide sufficient information about how the community service activity was planned and implemented.

Depending on the type of activity, this section may describe:

  • Location and target community;
  • Participants or community partners;
  • Identification of community problems or needs;
  • Community service approach or intervention;
  • Stages of implementation;
  • Training, mentoring, or empowerment methods;
  • Application of science and technology;
  • Instruments or materials used;
  • Community participation;
  • Monitoring and evaluation methods; and
  • Methods used to evaluate outcomes or impact.

The method should be described clearly enough for readers to understand the implementation process.

10. Results and Discussion

The results section should clearly and systematically present the implementation and outcomes of the community service activity.

Authors may describe:

  • Implementation of activities;
  • Participation of community members or partners;
  • Knowledge or skills improvement;
  • Products, technologies, systems, or innovations implemented;
  • Changes or benefits experienced by the target community;
  • Evaluation results;
  • Supporting and inhibiting factors; and
  • Sustainability or follow-up activities.

Tables, figures, charts, photographs, and other documentation may be included when they contribute to explaining the activity and its outcomes.

The discussion should interpret the results, explain their significance, relate them to the objectives of the activity, and where appropriate compare or connect the findings with relevant literature or previous community service activities.

11. Conclusion

The conclusion should summarize the main outcomes of the community service activity and explain how the activity addressed the stated objectives or community problems.

Authors may also provide recommendations, implications, limitations, sustainability plans, or suggestions for future community service activities where appropriate.

The conclusion should not merely repeat the abstract or reproduce the entire results and discussion section.

12. Tables, Figures, and Community Documentation

Tables, figures, photographs, and other documentation should be relevant, clear, readable, and appropriately referenced in the manuscript.

Each table and figure should have an appropriate number and descriptive caption.

Photographs of community service activities should accurately represent the activities reported in the manuscript. Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permission or consent when identifiable individuals or protected materials are included where required.

Authors must also obtain permission when using copyrighted figures, images, tables, or other third-party materials where such permission is required.

13. Citations and References

All works cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and references included in the reference list should be cited in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all references.

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or other appropriate reference management applications to improve citation consistency.

The citation and reference format should follow the style specified in the official JCM article template.

14. Originality and Plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work. Authors must appropriately acknowledge and cite ideas, text, data, figures, photographs, and other materials obtained from external sources.

Authors should review the JCM Publication Ethics policy before submitting their manuscripts.
